The Disco Biscuits continued their fall tour in the band’s native Northeast this weekend with a two-night stint at Brooklyn, NY’s Brooklyn Steel. The band rode a considerable wave of momentum into the New York visit following an eventful, extended Halloween weekend featuring three themed, subterranean shows, a hurricane relief benefit in Atlanta featuring a full recreation of Otherwise Law Abiding Citizens, and midweek shows in Baltimore, MD and and Jim Thorpe, PA.
The trance-fusion quartet kicked things off on Friday with fan-favorite “Helicopters” before falling into “Trap Door”, which included a tease of Stevie Wonder‘s “Part Time Lover” and descended into “Down To The Bottom”. The latter would serve as the first part of a first-set sandwich, with “Park Ave” and “Fire Will Exchange” leading back into the upbeat, laser-heavy set-closer.
The Disco Biscuits – “Helicopter” > “Trap Door” – 11/8/24
The first-set “Down To The Bottom” would turn out to be a sandwich within a sandwich as the band closed set two with a return to the show opener, “Helicopters”, but not before a triumphant stroll through “Times Square”—a New York-appropriate selection from their recent “space opera” Revolution in Motion—an inverted “Rock Candy”, and more. “Hot Air Balloon” was left unfinished (for the moment), and a techno-spiritual “Digital Buddha” encore capped off the evening.
The band returned to Brooklyn Steel on Saturday and greeted fans with the first Biscuits version of “Konkrete x Floodlights”, a mashup of “Konkrete” and “Floodlights” previously played as the band’s alter-ego, Tractorbeam. That was followed by “Lunar Pursuit”, the lone callback to when the band played the full album Otherwise Law Abiding Citizens in Atlanta just days prior. “Risky Business” included a tease of the Grateful Dead’s “Fire on the Mountain” and led into an “Aceetobee” > “Catalyst” > “Aceetobee” sandwich to round out set one.
Brooklyn night two continued with “To Be Continued”, and inverted “Little Shimmy In A Conga Line”, “Floes”, and “Country Royale” before the band went lighter-than-air once again to bring the open-ended “Hot Air Balloon” from Friday night to a satisfying conclusion.
The Disco Biscuits weren’t done yet, however. Making one more callback to their Halloween run, where the band improvised a score to 2001: A Space Odyssey at The Caverns, the Biscuits finished their Brooklyn Steel weekend with “Also Sprach Zarathustra” (known in some circles as “2001”).
The Disco Biscuits fall tour continues with additional shows in the Northeast this month. Fans can also look forward to an exciting New Year’s run at The Fillmore Philadelphia, as well as the band’s recently announced SeaBisco adventure, a unique cruise from Seattle to Alaska in September 2025.
