The Sword wrapped up their Conquest of Quarantine series last week with a cover of Rush‘s classic rock anthem, “Working Man”.

The three-part Conquest of Quarantine streaming series saw the stoner metal group playing together for the first time in 2020, as the band was on a planned hiatus. They were due to return in grand fashion this summer alongside Primus on the A Tribute To Kings Tour, where Primus would cover Rush’s 1977 album, but that was ultimately postponed to 2021.

Much like the rest of the Conquest of Quarantine series, this cover of “Working Man” saw the band record their parts in separate studios and editing the tracks together during the mixing stages. The Sword makes “Working Man” wholly their own by giving it that heavy, sludge rock feel that has defined their sound going back nearly 20 years.

“In the early 2000s we were given a CD by one of [guitarist] Kyle [Shutt]’s record store buddies with ‘SLUSH’ scrawled across it and little did we know what a wild ride awaited us,” bassist Bryan Richie said in a press release. “This dude had taken his favorite Rush songs and dropped the pitch control on his record player as low as it would go — taking these classic Rush tracks and turning them into a C standard sludge fest with the most air-drumable drums!! Does it doom? Heck yes it does. Enjoy our cover of the classic Rush track ‘Working Man’ with a Slush’y spin.”

Watch The Sword give Rush’s “Working Man” that signature stoner metal sound in the final installment of the Conquest of Quarantine series.
