Like a roach rising from the ashtray, Ty Segall‘s stoner rock trio Fuzz has returned, this time with news of a singles, rarities, and demos collection, Fuzz’s Fourth Dream. The album is out in December via In The Red Records (exact date not confirmed), and Fuzz will go on a rare four-show mini-tour of California to celebrate.
Along with the album announcement, Fuzz—comprised of Ty Segall on drums, Charles Moothart on guitar, and Chad Ubovich (Meatbodies) on bass—shared a demo version of “Jack the Maggot”. Taken from the band’s 2015 sophomore album, the appropriately titled II, “Jack the Maggot” lays Fuzz’s Black Sabbath heritage bare, not just in Moothart’s buzzing power chords straight from the Tony Iommi tablature but also in Segall’s minimalist Bill Ward drum fills between the riffs.

“My dad was a really big Black Sabbath fan,” Moothart told Interview Magazine in 2015. “He’s not really into music now, but whenever we’d talk about music he’d say, ‘Oh, Black Sabbath is the greatest band ever.’ I was raised with that idea. Over time, not really directly trying, I picked up some random heavier records. My buddy Jeff showed me Blue Cheer when we were living together six years ago. There was never really a moment when I was like, ‘Oh, I want to listen to stoner rock.’ It slipped into my taste slowly.”
Fuzz’s Fourth Dream compiles demos and other unreleased recordings from Fuzz’s nearly 15-year career—including the title track, the first song on the band’s first demo cassette tape sold at live shows in the early 2010s. Fuzz would go on to release three full-length albums: 2013’s Fuzz, 2015’s II, and III in 2020, which was later paired with the band’s first North American tour in seven years.
“This collection really does give a proper road map to what this band is and was, as well as how the two connect,” said Moothart, who left Segall’s Freedom Band on good terms in 2023, at which time Ty retired the backing outfit. “Fuzz means a lot to me, and I have learned so much through these processes. Thank you to any one who has been listening to these songs since the beginning, and thank you to any one who is here for the first time. And, of course, thank you to everyone in between.”

The band will also play a run of shows in San Diego (1/21), L.A. (1/23), San Francisco (1/24), and San Luis Obispo (1/25). Tickets for the shows go on sale on Friday. Segall will then go on tour with his solo band—featuring Emmett Kelly, Mikal Cronin, Ben Boye, and Evan Burrows—in spring 2026. Find tickets and a full list of tour dates on his website.
