Last night, Umphrey’s McGee kicked off a three-night run across the Northeast with a performance at Canalside Buffalo in Buffalo, New York. With the band gearing up for performances at Boston’s House Of Blues tonight and Asbury Park, New Jersey’s Stone Pony Summer Stage on Saturday, the band wasted no time in kicking the performance into high gear, a feat especially when considering that Umphrey’s hasn’t played in almost a month since Oak Hill, West Virginia’s Mountain Music Festival.

After their first set opened with the thoroughly jammed-out combo of “Catshot” into “Attachments”. With this powerful start to the show, the group moved into “The Fussy Dutchmen” starting the performance in full with their high-octane, shred-heavy take. Other highlights of the first set included the “Speak Up” jam and the set-closing “Wizard Burial Ground.” As for set two, the band shifted to more inter-song jamming, with combos of “Wappy Sprayberry” into a standout “Hurt Bird Bath” following the set-opening “Triangle Tear” and a four-song set-closing spring of “Booth Love” (which contained teases of “Wizard Burial Ground”), “Resolution”, “Much Obliged”, and “Hollywood Nights” before Umphrey’s encore of “Puppet String”.
