Like thousands of fans across the country, Umphrey’s McGee is preparing for a trip to Suwannee Hulaween later this month. The heavy prog-jam band sits atop the lineup, and to get ready for the fest, Umphrey’s made a Hulaween playlist featuring many of its fellow headliners.
HulaFam Jams curated by Umphrey’s McGee highlights the diverse lineup of acts coming to the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL October 24th–27th. Outgoing electronic festival circuit mainstay Tipper will visit Suwannee for possibly the last time before retiring from live performing in 2025. Umphrey’s McGee acknowledged the influential trip-hop producer with “Dreamsters” from his 2014 LP Forward Escape. Despite the HulaFam Jams title, UM’s playlist leans more toward bass music rather than jam rock with tracks from Liquid Stranger, Of The Trees, Nora En Pure, and more.
There are of course plenty of rocking tracks too, with several provided by Umphrey’s itself including cuts from 2014’s Similar Skin, the companion remix album Reskinned, and the band’s beloved 2016 mashup album ZONKEY. Stoner heroes of the ’90s Sublime will make their debut at Hulaween with original members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh playing behind Bradley Knowell‘s son Jakob, and Umphrey’s had to honor the occasion with a couple songs from the band’s classic 1996 self-titled album. Neo-soul favorites Black Pumas are also represented on the playlist along with Australian multi-instrumentalist Tash Sultana and Run The Jewels MC Killer Mike. Umphrey’s McGee nodded to its festival frenemy Andy Frasco & The U.N. to kick off the playlist, as well as plugged bassist Ryan Stasik‘s synthwave side project Doom Flamingo. Bridging together both ends of the electronic–jam spectrum is LP Giobbi, whose house remix of Jerry Garcia‘s 1972 self-titled album appears in full to close the HulaFam Jams playlist.
“It’s our last festival of the year and we plan on going big down South, bringing some healing through music,” Stasik told Live For Live Music. “Get ready with this banger playlist.”
