Umphrey’s McGee has released a music video for “Suxity”, which finds the band at its goofiest. The single was originally released back in January and marked the band’s first new music of 2020, joined only by “Easter in Quarantine” since then.

The song has also been released on 7″ vinyl, along with the b-side track, “Crucial Taunt”. The band is selling the records here and donating $5 from every purchase to Conscious Alliance, a non-profit hunger relief organization.

The music video for “Suxity” features a mix of footage from the band’s touring life, as well as its in-studio antics. In the immortal words of Bill Hader‘s Stefon character from Saturday Night Live: “this place has everything.” There’s Ryan Stasik decked out in gear from his own band, creepy winks from Brendan BaylissJake Cinninger puking into a waste basket then sticking hand into said waste basket, and so much more.

In the world of jam band music videos, there’s the high water mark of the Grateful Dead‘s “Touch of Grey” and the low point of Phish‘s “Down with Disease” (honorable mention for worst also goes to the Dead for “Hell In A Bucket”). Somewhere between those two extremes is where the “Suxity” video falls. The band isn’t trying to look cool, with the exception of a mustachioed Stasik cracking a Budweiser into the camera. They also don’t seem to be trying to make an artistic statement, unless of course you count a dizzying amount of wipe transitions. In the end, it looks like Umphrey’s had fun making the “Suxity” video, presumably with the hope that fans would have fun watching it.

The band noted in the video’s description,

“Suxity” /suxity/ SUCK-city n. A location, place or state of being where it’s best to have your wits about you. Now in video form. Filmed on the road and in the studio, by hand, in early 2020.
