On Wednesday, March 7th, an impressive roster of artists came together for Volunteer Jam XX: A Tribute to Charlie Daniels in Nashville, TN. Charlie Daniels started the Volunteer Jam tradition way back in the early ’70s. Notes Rolling Stone, “A Tennessee tradition since 1974, this year’s Volunteer Jam celebrated Charlie Daniels’ legacy by shining a light not only on the songwriter himself, but the generations of Southern rockers who’ve followed in his wake.”
Now, AXS TV has announced that they will premiere a TV concert special taped at the event on Sunday, August 19th, at 10 p.m. Eastern. Ahead of the airing of the concert film, Rolling Stone has shared a clip from the show of Devon Allman and Duane Betts (the sons of Allman Brothers Band members Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts) performing “Blue Sky” with a slew of high-profile players including mandolinist Sam Bush, songwriter Jamey Johnson, Blue Note Records president and decorated musician/producer Don Was, guitarist Audley Freed, and former Allman Brothers keyboardist Chuck Leavell, which you can watch here. You can also check out fan-shot footage of “Blue Sky” from Volunteer Jam XX below:
