Vulfpeck returned with another Vulf Vault 005: Wongs Cafe single on Tuesday with “You Got To Be You”. The song arrives as the third single from the instrumental nu-funk outfit’s forthcoming album, out on January 7th.

Following previously released singles “Disco De Lune” and “Smokeshow“, “You Got To Be You” takes a keyboard-forward approach with the three-pronged attack of Jack Stratton on piano, Woody Goss on Wurlitzer, and Joey Dosik on Rhodes. The vintage, toe-tapping keyboard army intersects with the laid-back funk of Vulfpeck, with Joe Dart holding down the low end and Cory Wong adding to the conversation on guitar. The musical ambiance is that of an impromptu, back-porch jam session that just happened to have been shot professionally and mastered for an album.

The new, Cory Wong-produced album features ten new instrumental compositions from the band, making it Vulfpeck’s first LP since 2020’s The Joy of Music, The Job of Real EstateWongs Cafe comes as the fifth installment of the Vulf Vault series, which previously saw each member cull together an exclusive vinyl release from previously unheard material and other sources. For the prolifically-productive guitarist, however, the band decided to get together and make an entirely new album for wide release.
