Music fans and musicians within the classic rock community were saddened by the news that Little Feat guitarist/singer Paul Barrere died on Saturday at the age of 71. The band, which is currently at the tail end of a fall run of shows as part of a 50th-anniversary tour in 2019, still took the stage at Huntington, NY’s The Paramount on Saturday night for a room full of heavy hearts as they paid tribute to their longtime bandmate.

Members of the band are not the only ones to pay tribute to Barrere, who joined Little Feat in 1972 and continued to collaborate with outside artists throughout his career including Taj Mahal, Jack Bruce, and Carly Simon to name a few.

Guitarist Warren Haynes, who is no stranger to the Little Feat universe, shared his in-depth memories and gratitude for the impact Barrere and the band had on his own career with a lengthy statement shared to his Facebook.

“Having played a lot of Little Feat’s music through the years- both with them and in several other situations- I can say that my love and reverence for that music has not diminished one iota,” Haynes mentioned in the lengthy tribute post. “In fact it’s quite the opposite. There are truly so few bands and artists whose music is better now than it was when we first discovered it and I consider Little Feat to be one of those sacred few.”
