As the snow blankets Steamboat Springs, WinterWonderGrass is gearing up for its 12th annual celebration of jamgrass and mountain culture. Set for February 28th–March 2nd, 2025, the festival returns to Colorado with a carefully curated lineup that honors the genre’s trailblazers while shining a light on its rising stars.
Headlining the 2025 event are beloved festival favorites like Trampled by Turtles, alongside the soulful grooves of The California Honeydrops, the high-energy slam-grass of Leftover Salmon, galaxygrass quartet Kitchen Dwellers, and psychedelic cowboy Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country. Also gracing the stages are newgrass pioneer Sam Bush, jamgrass veterans Yonder Mountain String Band, and San Francisco bluegrassers The Brothers Comatose, with special guests Lindsay Lou, Kyle Tuttle, and Jon Stickley. New faces, such as Mountain Grass Unit, reflect the festival’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent while staying rooted in bluegrass tradition.
WinterWonderGrass founder Scotty Stoughton summed up the festival’s ethos, saying, “In a world where many small independent festivals have disappeared, we are committed to filling the WonderGrass community cup with love. We create these experiences for the love—the love of community, our culture, and each other. Because, in the end, what else is there?”
This year’s lineup doesn’t just celebrate individual artists—it brings fans a few exciting supergroups. Pickin’ on the Dead, featuring Rob Eaton of Dark Star Orchestra and Kyle Hollingsworth of The String Cheese Incident, promises a jam-heavy set of Grateful Dead classics, while the all-female WinterWonderWomen and the ever-rotating RiverWonderGrass All-Stars are set to deliver spontaneous collaborations and unforgettable moments.
For Kyle Tuttle (banjoist for Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway), the magic of WinterWonderGrass is unmatched: “WWG is an event in its own category. They pull off the impossible year after year. Throwing a huge party in a snowstorm sounds hard, and it’s actually about ten times harder than it sounds. The whole Bonfire team has an unmatched level of dedication, and it shows from the moment you arrive onsite.”
WinterWonderGrass isn’t just about the main-stage performances, either. The festival offers a wide array of experiences that enrich the weekend, from the free Thursday night kick-off event to the late-night “Grass After Dark” shows. The ever-popular Taste of WonderGrass returns in 2025, featuring complimentary daily tastings of local brews, wines, and spirits from 2–4 p.m. It’s the perfect way to warm up between sets in one of the festival’s heated music tents.
The festival’s commitment to community extends beyond music as well, with a portion of ticket sales benefiting All Hands and Hearts to support hurricane relief efforts in North Carolina. WinterWonderGrass continues to emphasize quality over quantity, creating an intimate and authentic atmosphere where fans and artists alike can come together to celebrate the things that matter most—music, connection, and the great outdoors.
