In this new political age, it seems like any and every C-list celebrity wants to be president—and realistically, that could happen for them (Sad!). Following the election of President Donald Trump, the highly publicized “joke” senatorial campaign of Kid Rock, and more, increasingly, figures from the entertainment industry are toying with running for office, with the latest being rapper Coolio. Recently, KESQ reported that the “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper has his eyes set on the 2020 election, with plans to run for Vice President on the ticket of former-porn-star-turned-physical-therapist Cherie DeVille.

During the interview, Coolio elaborated on his motivations for running for office. “Somebody got to do something man, somebody got to try. We need normal people, we need normal regular everyday people in office,” explained the Grammy Award-winning musician and author of the monumental cookbook Cookin’ With Coolio.

In August, DeVille announced she would be entering the fray in 2020 as a presidential candidate. As a current health care provider working as a physical therapist, DeVille publically supports universal health care as well as free college tuition. However, her running mate’s political views are somewhat less defined—though he agrees with Donald Trump that we need to “drain the swamp,” as detailed by the KESQ report, “Coolio has unorthodox ideas about politics some might call conspiracy theories.” He explained some of these beliefs in the report, saying, “I believe there truly is a Deep State. And I think there is a Deep Deep State and nothing is what it seems.”

However, Coolio’s past work might further illuminate some of his views. In 2008, Coolio served as a spokesperson for the group Environmental Justice and Climate Change, where he spoke at a number of historically black colleges about global warming. Given his and his children’s severe asthma, e also serves as a spokesperson for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
