Twiddle on Wednesday shared a studio recording of “River Drift”, set to appear on the band’s new album, Every Last Leaf. Out on August 12th via No Coincidence Records, the 15-track collection marks the Vermont quartet’s first full-length studio release in five years.

Though the studio version shared on Wednesday is new, “River Drift” has been in Twiddle’s live catalog for four years. Frontman Mihali Savoulidis wrote the reflective composition and debuted it during one of his solo shows before Twiddle added it to its arsenal on September 1st, 2018 at Adirondack Independence Music Festival in Lake George, NY, per Phantasy Tour.

“‘River Drift’ is about honoring and being there for the people that you love while they are still with you. The song is also about honoring the friendship and impact they had on your life once they are gone,” Mihali said. “I think we can all agree that it is easier to bear life’s hardships and struggles when good people are at your side.”

“River Drift” comes to life through the keyboard work of Ryan Dempsey. Mihali’s incendiary guitar playing takes a backseat to his introspective lyricism on this track, with the wisdom that has guided him through the past few years—including the birth of his first child last year—shining through the ornate instrumentation. “River Drift” follows previous Every Last Leaf singles “Beautiful,” “The Devil” featuring John Popper, and “Distance Makes The Heart” featuring Anders Beck and marks the final pre-release single.
