This past weekend, NYC-based soul-pop upstarts Lawrence completed the east coast leg of their ongoing New Stuff Tour, which saw them play to packed houses at large venues in Washington, D.C., Brooklyn, Boston, and Philadelphia. The shows saw the band, led by the brother-and-sister duo of Clyde and Gracie Lawrence, feature a mix of material from their critically acclaimed debut, 2016’s Breakfast, reimagined covers like their jazz-funk arrangement of Sean Paul‘s reggaeton smash “Get Busy” and, of course, new material that will be featured on their highly anticipated sophomore LP, Living Room, set for a September 14th release.
Below, you can check out a full fan-shot video of Lawrence’s opening number at their sold-out hometown show at Brooklyn Steel on Friday. “Limbo”, the thoroughly catchy, fast-paced, Latin-tinged track, saw Gracie put her powerful pipes to work on lead vocals as Clyde (on keys and claps) led the band through the tune’s dynamically complex accompaniment. By the time they were finished playing it, “Limbo” was already stuck in everyone’s heads—a familiar quality of Lawrence originals that’s just as true of the new material they’re road-testing as it is of the songs from their debut.

Ahead of the New Stuff Tour‘s launch, the band also released their first studio single from Living Room: the smooth, sincere brass-bolstered ballad, “Try”. Give a listen to the official studio version of Lawrence’s “Try” via Spotify below:

According to a quote from the band in the album announcement,
We wrote Living Room over the course of the past two years in our family’s living room. It’s important to us that when you hear the songs we write, you feel like you are getting to know us as people. In short, this album is about growing up, and everything that comes with it. So each song is a little window into a moment in our lives, whether that be a fight we had with a loved one, a night of insomnia, or a bite of spicy food that we weren’t prepared for.
