In 2019, contrary to what pop music charts may say about the genre here in the United States, fans around the world still really love hard rock music and the bands who play it. A few years ago, a group of 1,000 musicians gathered to perform a communal cover of Foo Fighters‘ “Learn To Fly” in an impressive attempt to get the band to perform in their hometown of Cesesna, Italy, which the Foo eventually obliged. Those overseas musicians are now at it again, as this time an organization named Rock-n-Mob put together a group performance of Metallica‘s 1991 thrash metal anthem, “Sad But True”.

In a new video shared to Rock-n-Mob’s YouTube page last month, over 250 singers, guitarists, bassists, and drummers all gathered in Moscow, Russia to cover the popular Metallica song, which initially appeared on the band’s hugely successful 1991 self-titled album (also known as The Black Album). The actual performance took place back in mid-September, but you know how long the whole video editing process takes these days.

If you thought the intro to “Sad But True” was already heavy enough, try listening to it when the number of musicians playing the thunderous opening to the hard-hitting rock tune goes well into the hundreds! The entire performance can be experienced in all of its high-voltage glory in the video below.

Thankfully, there’s no need for Rock-n-Mob to petition for Metallica to perform over in Russia, as the band was in Moscow back over the summer for a show at Luzhniki Stadium as part of their ongoing tour in support of their latest studio album, Hardwired… To Self-Destruct.
