Alt-country power couple Amanda Shires and Jason Isbell celebrated their Valentine’s Day with a trip to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Together with a mix of backing musicians from Isbell and Shires’ solo outfits, they performed “Hawk For The Dove” from her new album, Take It Like A Man.

With her husband at her side and her occasional 400 Unit bandmates Chad Gamble (drums) and Jimbo Hart (bass) behind her, Shires takes centerstage for another trademark anthem of defiance. “You can call me serious trouble, just admit I’m what you want,” she sings in the chorus as cavernous guitar chords ring out and ominous keys hammer down. Isbell manages to sneak in a few stray licks, but it’s Shires who sets the stage ablaze with a roaring fiddle solo ahead of the song’s crescendo.

Shires continues to pick up momentum following the release of 2022’s Take It Like A Man. Last fall, she hit the road for the first time since 2020 for a solo tour, and then last month she and Isbell were named Record Store Day Ambassadors for 2023.  This summer, Shires’ Grammy-winning supergroup The Highwomen with Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, and Natalie Hemby will make their headlining debut at Carlile’s Echoes Through The Canyon concerts where they will share the bill with Joni Mitchell in her first ticketed concert in 22 years.
