The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the full listing of nominees for the 2021 Golden Globe Awards on Wednesday, which will take place virtually later this month on February 28th as hosted by comedians Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
Among the list of known actors and film executives who were included on the list of 2021 nominees were a few members of the music community.
Singer Andra Day is nominated in the “Best Actress in a Motion Picture” category as she portrays Billie Holiday in the forthcoming The United States vs. Billie Holiday biopic (scheduled to arrive exclusively on Hulu next month on February 26th). Day was also nominated in the “Best Original Song” category for “Tigress & Tweed” which also appears in the film. H.E.R. was also nominated in the “Best Original Song” category for her collaboration alongside Dernst Emile II and Tiara Thomas on the song “Fight For You” from Judas and the Black Messiah. Additionally, Hamilton actor and jazz musician Leslie Odom Jr. has been nominated for “Best Original Song” thanks to his work on “Speak Now”, written alongside Sam Ashworth, which appeared in One Night In Miami…
Speaking of Hamilton, the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical received two nominations for “Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy” and “Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy” for its star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Award-winning songwriting partners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, along with Jon Batiste, have been nominated for “Best Original Score” for their original compositions heard in Pixar‘s jazz-inspired Soul. Coincidentally, Reznor and Ross were nominated twice in that category, as the two also received a nod for their work on the biographical drama Mank.
Riz Ahmed has been nominated for “Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama,” as the rapper/actor portrayed a hard-rock drummer in the process of losing his ability to hear in the film Sound of Metal.
