The 2019 edition of Backwoods at Mulberry Mountain was colored by tragedy when a helicopter tour crashed near the festival grounds. On the final day of the 2019 event, a helicopter giving aerial tours of the mountain and music festival went missing, prompting search parties to comb the area for the aircraft and the people on board. The helicopter was later discovered at the site of the crash nearby. Pilot Chuck Dixon and passengers Sarah Hill and Marco Ornelas were killed in the crash, while a fourth passenger was critically injured.

G Jones was among the artists whose sets were canceled following the accident. He will return to Mulberry Mountain in 2020 to perform at Backwoods.
