Bill Strings was back in action on Thursday for the second of his two shows at the McHenry Outdoor Theater in McHenry, IL. The outdoor performance was the latest on the bluegrass guitarist’s Meet Me At The Drive-In Tour which kicked off earlier this month.
Thursday’s two-set performance opened with a take on Doc Watson‘s “Georgia Buck” as Strings took the stage solo with a banjo before being joined by the rest of the group. The first half of the cover-heavy show continued with performances of “Shout Little Luly”, “Highway Hipnosis”, “Cold on the Shoulder”, “Sitting In Limbo”, and “Raleigh and Spencer”.
The second set was also filled with a mix of covers including Strings’ live debut of Led Zepellin‘s “Four Sticks”. Other songs that filled the second half of the drive-in performance included “Air Mail Special”, “Springtime of Life”, “No More to Leave You Behind”, Strings’ originals in “Home” and “Away From The Mire”, and a set-closing “Let the Cocaine Be”.
