Last month, Black Pumas shared a four-song EP featuring three reworked originals from their self-titled, debut EP alongside a Jimmy Webb cover. The Electric Deluxe Sessions was released as an Amazon Music exclusive, but now performance videos for two of the songs are available on YouTube.

Last year saw the release of Black Pumas’ debut album, which won them a Grammy for Best New Artist. Now the duo, comprised of producer/guitarist Adrian Quesada and singer Eric Burton, have released new videos for their original “Colors” as well as Jimmy Webb’s “Wichita Lineman”.

In a red-draped room that looks like something out of Twin Peaks, Black Pumas perform “Wichita Lineman”. With an ominously-building keyboard introduction that could very well burst into Vanilla Fudge‘s “You Keep Me Hanging On”, Burton quickly diffuses the situation with the vintage quality of his voice. In the studio, Burton and Quesada stand beside each other, separated by a wall of noise-reducing glass. This studio setup, in addition to the practical purpose it serves, also personifies the yin-yang relationship of Black Pumas where each musician brings something unique to the equation.

For “Colors” we once again find Black Pumas in the Black Lodge, as Burton now dons a guitar and adds his own funky, if understated, rhythm. The song, the band’s highest-charting as it peaked at #39 and spent 10 weeks on Billboard‘s 200, encapsulates that Black Pumas style that sounds like every song of theirs could have been cut from the Django Unchained soundtrack. With a pair of backup singers, Burton is able to bring the song’s lyrical content to new heights as they sing, “All my favorite colors/All my favorite colors/My sisters and my brothers.”
