It’s a Bootsy Collins Christmas, baby! Today, the legendary funk bassist and composer has released “Boot-A-Claus / Here 4 A Reason”, a new holiday single featuring longtime members of Bootsy’s talented network including Fantaazma, Baby Triggy, Gary “G7” Jenkins, and Dreion. The single is a celebration and continuation of Bootsy’s Funk Not Fight mission, which aims to unify and spread peace through the power of music.

While Collins mostly cedes singing duties to the various guests on the track, the funk legend reigns supreme over the proceedings with his ad-libbed coos and motivational musings, making this a distinctly Bootsy holiday affair. A video for the track doubles down on Bootsy’s enigmatic charisma, casting him as a sort of ghost of funky Christmas past, present, and future.

Says Bootsy of this new holiday single and season, “We call this A-Boot-A-Claus Christmas Celebration. We look at this as being the Power of the One. No Matter what or who you believe in we come together as 1.”

The release of the new holiday track follows the recent announcement of Funk Not Fight, his forthcoming compilation album featuring contributions from Lettuce, Buckethead, Steve Lacy, Zapp, Triggy, Syleena Johnson, Tommy Davidson, Hi-Tek, Deanna Brown, G7, and Michael Dyson. Per Collins, the project aims to promote peace, reduce violence and unrest in disproportionately affected communities, and spread joy through the power of music.

The Funk Not Fight album, set for release in 2023, will feature emerging artists, rappers, poets, singers, and instrumentalists who will submit their music to be featured on the album. All money raised will go towards initiatives that are in need of financial support, that are dedicated to helping turn the tide of violence and unrest in our communities. The official album release date and further details will be announced early next year.
