Bright Eyes surprised fans on Friday with the release of a new single, “Miracle of Life”. The song finds the Conor Oberst-led outfit teamed up with Phoebe Bridgers, Flea, and Jon Theodore (Queens Of The Stone Age) to benefit Planned Parenthood.
Bright Eyes are also set to participate in Planned Parenthood’s upcoming Village of Love fundraising virtual festival on October 25th. Along with Bright Eyes, the event will see performances from Bridgers, Brittany Howard, Kevin Morby, Mac DeMarco, Margo Price, Perfume Genius, Tenacious D, Eric Andre, and many more. All of the profits for the festival—as well as “Miracle of Life”—will go toward Planned Parenthood.
The song finds that old familiar Oberst dreary lyricism, however this time applied to problems very real. Not to say that the struggles that Oberst—and his many legions of depressed fans—have dealt with aren’t real, but vivid lines like “get cured with a coat hanger/girl you’re in America now” put some things into perspective. As for the contributions from special guests, Bridgers’ vocals are the most noticeable contribution as Bright Eyes’ songs were never known for Red Hot Chili Pepper-type bass slaps or Mars Volta drum fills. At any rate, Theodore and Flea’s presence of the track is symbolic, if nothing else, and shows their commitment to the cause.
Listen to the new Bright Eyes track, “Miracle of Life”, featuring Phoebe Bridgers, Flea, and Jon Theodore via the Bandcamp player, and consider purchasing it for $1 which will go directly to Planned Parenthood. The track will be available on all streaming platforms beginning on October 28th. For more information on Village of Love, click here.
