Colter Wall has shared “High & Mighty”, the latest single from the singer-songwriter’s upcoming album Western Swing & Waltzes and Other Punchy Songs, out August 28th.

This latest single follows previously-released tracks “Western Swings & Waltzes” and “Cowpoke”. Wall had previously recorded “High & Mighty” for his Bunkhouse Sessions, but this marks the first release of the fully-produced studio recording featuring a backing band.

The rendition of “High & Mighty” released on Friday is a far cry from the version Wall recorded in actor Beau Smith‘s fallout shelter-style bunker on Wednesday. In this mastered rendition, he begins with the same vocal introduction paired with his lone acoustic guitar, but before long he is joined by a full band to create a toe-tapping rhythm. While the song sounds distinctly Wall as he lends his signature baritone to the tune, it was actually written by Lewis Martin Pederson III.

“‘High & Mighty’ is a Saskatchewan saddle bronc song written by Lewis Martin Pederson III,” Wall said in a press release. “LMP hails from around Abbey, Saskatchewan, not far from where I grew up. He’s known for rodeoing, his poetry, and in the ’70s he put out three great records—that I know of. Saddle bronc riding is my favourite rodeo event and upon hearing Pederson’s album Rodeo No.1 Sport, I immediately knew I wanted to cut it on a record.”
