Colter Wall has returned with the fourth unofficial release from his upcoming Western Swing & Waltzes and Other Punchy Songs, entitled “Houlihans at the Holiday Inn”.

The recording, shared on Wednesday, comes from Wall’s ongoing Bunkhouse Sessions. The sessions which were recorded live in Texas, features songs to be included on the forthcoming album but haven’t yet been released as mastered singles yet. This fourth installment follows previous low-fi versions of “Rocky Mountain Rangers”, “Diamond Joe”, and “I Ride an Old Paint/Leavin’ Cheyenne”.

In a way, these Bunkhouse Sessions are truer to the nature of the country revivalist than any polished recordings. There’s no fancy equipment, backing band, overdubbed vocals, or really any advanced technology other than the camera itself and the coffee maker on the table beside him. It’s just Wall with his guitar, clad in a cowboy hat and surrounded by what seems to be a requisite amount of photos of cowboys.

The song itself is more of the vintage country-western sound that is somehow emanating from a man who is only 25-years-old. “Houlihans at the Holiday Inn” seems semi-autobiographical as it tells of life on the road as a traveling musician, something that is most likely a distant memory for Wall at this point. Still, even with the steady rise to success that Wall has experienced over the past few years, he sings “I seldom pay a cent for my drinks/Folks in here tonight think I’m the king/I’d trade it all for a double rigged saddle/And a good pair of chinks.”
