Daze Between New Orleans producers Gideon Plotnicki (GMP Live) and Kunj Shah (Live For Live Music) and 2024 festival performer Daniel Donato recently appeared on New Orleans local news to speak to the Crescent City community about the two-day event, set to take place at Faubourg Brewery this Tuesday, April 30th and Wednesday, May 1st [get tickets].

As Plotnicki explained of the concept behind the festival, which takes place during the “Daze Between” Jazz Fest’s two weekends when the Fair Grounds go quiet but the city remains alive with festive energy, “Kunj and I have been producing late-night shows at Jazz Fest for many years and coming out the pandemic we really wanted to do something a little bit bigger and outdoors that gave back to New Orleans. We were able to make this connection with Faubourg Brewery and do exactly that, have a big, outdoor event that raises money for local charities.”

Shah added, “[Charity is] a big part of what we do. We’re partnered with Rex Foundation, which is the Grateful Dead‘s official charity, and we’ve raised $40,000 over the last two years … and hope to raise another $20-30,000 this year.”

Daniel Donato—who will perform at the festival with his own band, Cosmic Country, and take part in Gov’t Mule’s guest-filled headlining set on Wednesday, May 1st—took it from there on his trusty Telecaster, treating the viewing audience to a quick, twangy rendition of his Reflector track, “Rose in a Garden”.

As anchor Josh Roberson quipped when Donato finished, “Okay, look, I don’t care if you go to all eight days of Jazz Fest, you’re not gonna get sick of that.” Watch the full Daze Between New Orleans segment on Fox 8 Local First news featuring Daniel Donato, Kunj Shah, and Gideon Plotnicki here.
