Dave Matthews Band is getting into the archival concert webcast game with a new series, the DMB Drive-In. The weekly livestream series will see Dave Matthews Band broadcast a show from their archives each Wednesday night via dmbdrivein.com (powered by Nugs.net).
The first installment of the DMB Drive-In webcast series will take fans back to the band’s June 29th, 2016 show at Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center in Noblesville, IN (known by most as Deer Creek). This week’s archival webcast is presented by Matthews’ Dreaming Tree Wines, who will make an initial $50,000 donation to the series’ first “spotlight charity,” World Central Kitchen. The announcement of the new archival live stream series came just hours before Dave Matthews Band officially rescheduled its 2020 summer tour to 2021 due to the ongoing global health crisis. With the DMB Drive-In, Dave and company join the ever-growing list of acts streaming old concerts for fans stuck in self-isolation including Phish, Dead & Company, The Rolling Stones, Radiohead, Grateful Dead, and many more.
It’s also worth noting that the name of the webcast series, DMB Drive-In, is a little misleading in the current live music climate. Actual drive-in concerts are becoming increasingly prevalent as artists and promoters look for a way to continue to host events while observing social distancing guidelines. Several cities in Europe have already began successfully hosting drive-in concerts and domestic acts, like DJ Marc Rebillet, have jumped in on the trend here in the States.
