DJ Logic gathered some of his friends from the funk and jam world for a pair of late-night ragers at The Sand Dollar Downtown following Phish‘s Sphere shows in Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday.

The renowned turntablist has collaborated with many artists over the years, carving out a unique niche in the jam scene as a creative liaison between the worlds of hip-hop and improvisational instrumentation. This time, he recruited a stacked lineup comprised of keyboardist Aron Magner (The Disco Biscuits), drummer Adam Deitch (Lettuce), guitarist Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff (Lettuce), bassist Erick “Jesus” Coomes (Lettuce), and saxophonist Skerik (Les Claypool) to fill out the band.

The all-star collective kept the funk flowing into the wee hours with a hard-hitting, improv-heavy performance full of deep-pocket grooves and spontaneous beats, some based around hip-hop samples. Like previous DJ Logic & Friends collaborations, the band drew upon the talents of each member and, through a bit of musical alchemy, produced a combination with power far greater than the sum of its parts.

DJ Logic will host two more all-star late-night dance parties with a different lineup on May 17th and 18th, during the first weekend of Dead & Company‘s Sphere residency. The band will include Eric Krasno (Soulive), Aron Magner, Reed Mathis (Billy & The Kids), and Ben Atkind (Elephant Proof). For more information and tickets, head here.
