The Doobie Brothers have added 23 new dates to their 50th-anniversary tour set to take place in 2020. The tour will see Michael McDonald, Tom Johnston, Pat Simmons, and John McFee perform together for the first time in 25 years. The band also announced that New Orleans’ Dirty Dozen Brass Band will serve as support for all of the 50th-anniversary tour dates.
“We’re truly excited about our 50th Anniversary Tour, as it’s a celebration of the band’s entire history,” Johnston mentioned in a statement to go with the tour’s initial announcement. “We’ll be performing songs from our full catalog, as well as new music.”
McDonald also added in a recent interview with NPR, “With the Doobies, everybody in the band was proud to be a Doobie Brother. And to this day, I think of myself as a Doobie Brother — all these years later.”
The band returned to news headlines earlier this year when the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced that the Doobie Brothers were on the list of nominees to be considered for the class of 2020 alongside names like Pat Benatar, Dave Matthews Band, Depeche Mode, Whitney Houston, and Judas Priest.
