[11/2/22]: Eggy celebrated Halloween with an Elton John-themed show at Charleston, SC’s Charleston Pour House as part of the band’s Haunted Pour House run. Each member of the Connecticut-based jam band—Jake Brownstein (guitar/vocals), Dani Battat (keys/vocals), Mike Goodman (drums/vocals), and Alex Bailey (drums/vocals)—dressed in an iconic Elton John outfit, and the group welcomed Ross Bogan and Kanika Moore of Doom Flamingo to sit in on keytar and vocals, respectively.

Dressed in flamboyant garb a la The Rocket Man, Eggy alternated back and forth between Elton John hits and original songs starting with Elton’s “Bennie and the Jets” and their own “Broken Bluff”. Next came “Honky Cat” and “High Noon” covers, followed by the Eggy debut of “Tiny Dancer” featuring Jake Brownstein on pedal steel.

The set continued with Eggy’s “Wayless”, Sir Elton’s “Amoreena”, and a rare rendition of the New Haven quartet’s Halloween-appropriate “Lake Monster”. To cap the first set, Doom Flamingo’s Ross Bogan emerged wearing his signature wolf mask to add some keytar on an emphatic rendition of one of Eggy’s oldest tunes, “Golden Gate Dancer”.

The pattern continued in set two as Eggy opened with “Bad Side of the Moon” (Elton John) followed by “Backyard Bear” (original). The band weaved teases of the Grateful Dead‘s “Slipknot” and Pink Floyd‘s “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” into Elton’s “Madman Across the Water”, then infused their own jam vehicle “Onitsuka Tiger” with quotes from ZZ Top‘s “La Grange” and Aerosmith‘s “Sweet Emotion”.

Jake returned to pedal steel for a the celebratory release of “Rocket Man” before the band once again closed the set with a Doom Flamingo sit-in, this time with Kanika Moore joining in on vocals. For the encore, Eggy treated the Monday night crowd to Elton’s “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)”.
