[UPDATE 4/23/21]: Organizers for Electric Forest have officially announced that the 2021 edition of the Rothbury, Michigan festival, tentatively scheduled to take place in August, has been postponed to 2022.

As festival organizers noted in the cancellation announcement, “After a tumultuous year full of challenges, HQ has eagerly anticipated and worked towards our collective return to Electric Forest. However, as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have continued, it has become clear that we are not going to be able to gather in 2021 and that postponing to 2022 is our only course of action.”

As of the festival’s last update earlier this month, organizers were still trying to bring the 2021 event to fruition.

[4/3/21] Organizers for Michigan’s Electric Forest music festival took to social media on Friday to share an optimistic update on the possibility of a 2021 event. The long-running festival, which blends electronic and jam band genres, was forced to cancel its 10th-anniversary event in 2020 due to COVID-19.

Although festival organizers have yet to officially confirm the dates should the event return this year, Friday’s announcement did reveal that they are hoping for Electric Forest’s return by the end of summer.

A statement shared to Electric Forest social media pages reads,

Greetings Forest Family –

As we are all aware, nationwide discussions related to large gatherings, vaccination timelines, social distancing regulations, general safety, and many other COVID related considerations are evolving by the minute. We continue to closely watch the ever-changing situation with an eye to when we can all reunite.

Here is what we know for the moment. HQ is working tirelessly to navigate our potential options for 2021, and discussions with all parties involved are ongoing. If Electric Forest 2021 is to happen, it will take place in August.

The statement continued,

While we all miss each other tremendously, and can’t wait to connect again in the Forest, the safety of the Forest Family remains the utmost priority. With a little more patience, we will have the clarity we desire. For now, we want to make sure that clarity is based on every bit of information possible.

Please expect to hear from EF HQ as soon as possible with a decision on this summer.

Friday’s update follows a growing number of rescheduled 2021 festival announcements over the past few months, including Maryland’s DelFest, Tennessee’s Bonnaroo, Pennsylvania’s Resonance Music And Arts Festival, Chicago’s North Coast Music Festival, Las Vegas’ Electric Daisy Carnival, Georgia’s Imagine Festival, San Francisco’s Outside Lands, and more.
