The latest live Grateful Dead video from the band’s recently-launched “All The Years Live” series is now available through the band’s official YouTube page. The new video features “Shakedown Street” from June 22nd, 1991 at Chicago, IL’s Soldier Field.
As the band’s official archivist David Lemieux explains in the video’s description, “From the excellent Summer Tour of 1991, featuring the dual keyboard attack of Vince Welnick and Bruce Hornsby, this ‘Shakedown Street’ has a relentless drive and focus, typical of the Dead’s performances during this era. This is from the Dead’s first appearance at Chicago’s Soldier Field.”
The Chicago show marked the Grateful Dead’s debut performance at Soldier Field, the same stadium that hosted the Dead’s final shows four year later in July 1995. The title track from the band’s 1978 studio album, this 15-minute “Shakedown Street” features some explosive guitar work from Jerry Garcia, backed by Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, and Mickey Hart‘s infectious rhythm section. The dual keyboard configuration of Welnick and Hornsby adds a flavorful touch to this exploratory “Shakedown”.
