Jason Isbell has shared a previously-unreleased demo recording of “Maybe It’s Time”, which originally appeared in the 2018 film A Star is Born, starring Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga, and Sam Elliot. Additionally, listeners who purchase the recording via Bandcamp will receive another unreleased track, “Alabama Sky”.

In the film, which is the third remake of its 1937 predecessor, Bradley Cooper plays Jackson Maine, a musician who helps a young singer (Lady Gaga) find fame while he battles with age and alcohol addiction. Maine’s signature song was “Maybe It’s Time”, which Isbell had actually written years prior to the film’s release. Because Cooper does the singing in the film, nobody had heard Isbell’s rendition until its release last week.

While the version heard on the A Star is Born soundtrack stays true to the original demo, there are some differences. Namely, the vocals. Cooper is a proficient singer, however, Isbell’s vocals on the demo feel much more genuine and emotional. There are also production differences as Isbell’s vocals are more pronounced in the mix. Listen to both versions below and compare the two for yourself. Furthermore, head to Isbell’s Bandcamp page to purchase the song and receive the unreleased “Alabama Sky”.
