Khruangbin and Leon Bridges have announced a new EP, Texas Moon, set for release on February 18th via Dead Oceans in partnership with Columbia Records and Night Time Stories Ltd.
Back on February 7th, 2020, Khruangbin and Leon Bridges released their first collaborative EP, Texas Sun. The four-track record heard members Mark Speer (guitar), Laura Lee (bass), and Donald “DJ” Johnson (drums) provide blissfully hypnotic instrumentals for Bridges’ sublime and emotionally-rich vocals.
Looking to recreate this magic, the collaborators have recorded five tracks for Texas Moon, inspired by the group’s home state and paying homage to its unique marriage of country and R&B.

“It’s like a short story…,” said Lee in a press release. “And it leaves room to continue having these stories together. It’s not Khruangbin, it’s not Leon, it’s this world we created together.”
Texas Moon, in contrast with Texas Sun, will offer an introspective stroll through the darkness. The artists will channel a newly intimate musical scope, highlighted by minimalism and infused with spirituality.
“Without joy, there can be no real perspective on sorrow,” Khruangbin explained in a statement. “Without sunlight, all this rain keeps things from growing. How can you have the sun without the moon?”
DJ offered a reflection on one of the songs, “Doris”, explaining that the band took care in making sure it accented the raw emotion and delicacy of the track. “The song ‘Doris’ is about [Leon’s] grandmother making the transition from this world to the next realm,” he noted in a statement. “It’s a very somber, very deep record. And when someone places that kind of work into your hands, the last thing you want to do is junk it up, overproduce it, or do too much. We treated it with the respect it deserved, and treated Doris with the respect she deserves.”
“B-Side”, the new single released on Wednesday, is a passionate venture carried by Lee’s ebullient bass and highlighted by Bridges’ hypnotic singing. The video arrives as a wandering Western shot in the J. Lorraine Ghost Town outside of Austin, TX. With the musicians facing off in the middle of the desolate and decrepit town, the video imbues psychedelia throughout, transporting the viewer to an alternate galaxy.
