LaMP, a supergroup featuring Scott Metzger (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead) alongside Russ Lawton and Ray Paczkowski (Trey Anastasio Band), has released a self-titled, debut EP.

While the live music shutdown may seem like the perfect time for supergroups such as this, the collection of instrumental tunes was actually recorded on May 7th and 8th, 2019 at Sugarhouse Soundworks in Burlington, VT. The seven-song EP features Metzger on guitar, Paczkowski on organ, and Lawton on drums. With a condensed three-piece lineup, each member is able to shine without eclipsing each other. That, in addition to first-rate musicianship, allows for perfect balance on LaMP. The project did not drop out of the clear blue sky, as some may remember the trio’s debut concert at Nectar‘s in Burlington back in December, 2018. LaMP also released the first single from the album, “Some Days”, in April of this year.

Scott Metzger spoke to JamBase about the project, saying:

With Russ and Ray being so much of a team as they are they’ve done who knows how many gigs together? It’s been a good challenge to join them to try and add something to their Vulcan mind-meld level of music-making while adding something to the foundation they’ve built.

I’m in Brooklyn, and Russ and Ray are up in Vermont. We wrote everything via the internet. We figured out telecommuting and working from home before it was fashionable [laughs]. We’d usually start with Russ sending around a drumbeat he was working on, then Ray and I would put down ideas and we’d send them back and forth, editing everything as we went along. When we finally found some time to record, I drove up to Vermont, we took a day to flush everything out and rehearse, then spent two days recording.
