The Funk Sessions will return to New Orleans, LA’s Toulouse Theatre for a late-night blowout on Saturday, May 3rd (technically early a.m. 5/4) as part of Live For Live Music‘s Fest by Nite series during Jazz Fest 2025 [get tickets].
The core of the Fest by Nite 2025 The Funk Sessions lineup will look familiar to fans of future-funk sextet Lettuce, with drummer Adam Deitch, guitarist Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff, and bassist Erick “Jesus” Coomes all set to participate. They will be joined by enigmatic saxophone madman and Jazz Fest late-night warrior Skerik, plus additional “special guests to be announced.” Considering the collaborative spirit of both Jazz Fest and The Funk Sessions, the possibilities for surprises at this late-night funk summit are endless.
The Funk Sessions began in Denver, CO in 2019 as a monthly residency of funk blowouts featuring rotating lineups of well-known players from around the country. The series has since gained traction as a staple of Fest by Nite, with the 2025 late-night at Toulouse Theater set to mark its fourth Crescent City iteration. Last year’s New Orleans edition of The Funk Sessions featuring Skerik, Nels Cline, Stanton Moore, and Wil Blades was widely hailed as a highlight of the 2024 Fest by Nite schedule, pushing the boundaries of what “funk” can be.
