Lettuce has shared a new original single, entitled, “NDUGU”, which is one of the recordings set to appear on the funk-rock band’s forthcoming studio albumResonate, due out this spring on May 8th. The song’s arrival late Tuesday night follows the previous release of “Checker Wrecker“, which was shared with the album’s overall announcement last month.

While typically known for their trademark style of groovy power funk, the new five-minute track hears the band explore more of an afrobeat theme as the music bounces along vibrantly with short horn bursts and dreamy guitar work. Eric “Benny” Bloom takes a hair-raising trumpet solo halfway through before the rest of the band levels up to join him to power through the remainder of the song for a climactic end.

“NDUGU” is one of 10 total tracks that will appear on Lettuce’s forthcoming follow-up to 2019’s Grammy-nominated Elevate.

“We want to release a lot of stuff right now,” guitarist Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff told Live For Live Music in an interview earlier this year. “We want to keep the momentum going. We want to keep our people engaged with new music. Between stuff we recorded with the symphony and stuff that we’ve been doing video-wise, I just think you’re going to hear and see a lot more Lettuce over the next couple years.”

The band now has plenty of spare time to continue writing and releasing new music. Lettuce kicked off a run of U.K. and European tour dates last month which were set to wrap last week but the band was forced to return to North America early due to the COVID-19 virus spreading around parts of the globe which has ceased all public concerts across the country for the foreseeable future.
