LOCKN’ returns to the hills of Infinity Downs + Oak Ridge Farm in Arrington, VA earlier than usual this year, as Peter Shapiro‘s 8th annual jam-focused festival will take place in early summer on June 19th-21st. This year’s LOCKN’ focuses heavily on Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, who celebrates his 80th birthday in March and will lead the headlining sets all three nights.
Revealed on Wednesday, the 2020 lineup for LOCKN’ looks very enticing with scheduled performances throughout the weekend from Brandi Carlile, Gov’t Mule, Goose, Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers, Grateful Shred, and The Chain Gang (comprised of Devon Allman, Duane Betts, Cody & Luther Dickinson, Samantha Fish, Barry Oakley Jr., and John Ginty) performing Fleetwood Mac‘s Rumors and more—and that’s just Friday.
Other names featured on the 2020 lineup poster include Mike Gordon, David Crosby, The Marcus King Band, Taz Niederauer, Dark Star Orchestra, Leon Bridges, Hot Tuna, Oteil & Friends, Midnight North, Railroad Earth, Goose, and more.
As for Lesh, his weekend begins on Friday with a Quintet set alongside Warren Haynes, Jimmy Herring, John Molo, and Rob Barraco. Saturday will also feature a Phil Lesh Quintet set with Phil playing with the same lineup as Friday with the addition of David Crosby. Sunday will see Phil join forces with Joe Russo’s Almost Dead and John Mayer as the highlight guests.
That is quite the weekend of Dead music.
The festival also looks to bring back the Jerry Dance Party and the performances in the “Garcia Forest” from Ghost-Note, Circles Around The Sun, Ace of Cups, and more.
Deadheads along the east coast should be happy to see plenty of music from the famous rock band set to be the core focus of this years event, as it usually finds a way to do every year.
LOCKN’ landed on Live For Live Music’s Staff Picks for “Favorite Festivals” in 2019, and rightfully so. The 2019 edition of LOCKN’ last summer featured performances by fan-favorite acts including Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Vulfpeck, The Revivalists, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, and more, as well as collaborative performances by Trey Anastasio Band featuring Derek Trucks, Tedeschi Trucks Band featuring Trey Anastasio, Bob Weir and Wolf Bros featuring Susan Tedeschi, and Twiddle featuring John Popper, just to name a few.
Tickets for this year’s LOCKN’ Festival go on sale this Thursday, January 23rd, at 12 p.m. EST. Head to the event website for more info.
