moe. has released a recording of “Dangerous Game” from the band’s upcoming THIS IS NOT, WE ARE record, due out June 26th. Or rather, the band shared two recordings of “Dangerous Game”, one from the band’s studio and the other live at the State Theater in Portland, ME on February 16th and weaved the two together.

“Dangerous Game” was the fifth single shared from the album, following “LL3”, “Crushing”, “Jazz Cigarette” and “Who You Calling Scared”. THIS IS NOT WE ARE marks the Buffalo-bred quintet’s first new studio album in six years.

The video opens in the holy grail of man caves that is moe.’s recording studio. License plates, fishing tackle, a barn door that opens right into the room, a chrome trailer, and tens of thousands of dollars of music equipment, all stuffed into a giant wood cabin really bolsters the flannel-clad dad rock persona that moe. encapsulates. Guitarist Al Schnier takes lead vocals on “Dangerous Game”, a song that finds him using his trademark growl on a pre-chorus build that sounds tonally similar to Bob Weir‘s in “Throwing Stones”.

Yet the real fun of this video comes about five minutes in when the footage switches from the studio to the stage at the State Theater in Portland, ME. Viewers are dropped in just as drummer Vinnie Amico breaks the rhythm down, and the next seven minutes features the band building the song to dizzying heights. Finally, with a minute to spare, the clip cuts back to the studio for one last run through the chorus.

Watch moe. perform “Dangerous Game” live and in the studio. THIS IS NOT WE ARE is available everywhere on June 26th.
