Pigeons Playing Ping Pong will return to Asheville, NC for another New Year’s Eve celebration, the band announced on Tuesday. The two-night run of shows to ring in 2022 will be dubbed Arena 54 NYE and will take place across two venues on December 30th and 31st.
The pair of concerts begins on December 30th at The Orange Peel before moving down the street to the 7,674-person capacity ExploreAsheville.com Arena for the year-ending concert. The run will feature opening sets from both Funk You and Keller Williams.
“If Dave Grohl says it, it must be true, disco is back!” Frontman Greg Ormont said in a statement, referring to Foo Fighters’ recent Bee Gees tribute album Hail Satin, released under the alter ego Dee Gees.
“I think we set the bar pretty high last time we played New Year’s Eve at this epic arena, and now we’re going to launch that bar into outer space by infusing our high energy psychedelic funk with smile-inducing disco beats and the supernatural vibes that Asheville emanates as strongly as Roswell.”
An artist pre-sale for tickets to Pigeons Playing Ping Pong Arena 54 NYE in Asheville begins on Wednesday at 10 a.m. ET and goes through Thursday at 10 p.m., followed by a venue pre-sale Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday at 10 a.m. ET. Packages with tickets for both shows will once again be available.
In accordance with current safety protocols, both venues require proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative test within 48 hours of the event. A nasal swab COVID testing site will be at a closely located area on 12/31, but will not be available for the Orange Peel show. Visit the band’s website for tickets and more information.
