SiriusXM and Phish Radio have shared a video of Phish performing “Tube” at the band’s 2021 New Year’s livestream event, Live from the Ninth Cube.
Following the postponement of the quartet’s traditional year-end run at Madison Square Garden, Phish made pandemic lemonade with the Live from the Ninth Cube concert stream, presented by SiriusXM and Phish Radio. While the band performed without an audience, the three-set show from the “Ninth Cube” offered fans a full, arena-worthy production setup including both the regular Phish lighting rig and a forest of LEDs covering the empty house floor.
The unprecedented viewing event marked the first time Phish has ever included a direct dialogue with their fans during a show via social media comments and requests that the band could view in real-time—an element guitarist Trey Anastasio utilized extensively in his 2020 Beacon Jams livestream residency. Phish’s Live from the Ninth Cube event quickly became the most-viewed webcast of the band’s career to date.
Billed as part of Dinner and a Movie, the running webcast/cooking series that has raised money for various causes via the band’s WaterWheel Foundation since the start of the pandemic, Live from the Ninth Cube brought in more than $300,000 in donations on New Year’s Eve, tripling the pre-show goal and breaking the nonprofit organization’s record for donations from a single campaign. Donations will go to Divided Sky Foundation, The Mockingbird Foundation, The Mimi Fishman Foundation, Conscious Alliance, HeadCount, Phans for Racial Equity, and Conservation Law Foundation, and will help support the work they do.
If you missed the livestream on New Year’s Eve, SiriusXM subscribers can watch the full show on-demand through March 1st on the band’s exclusive SiriusXM channel, Phish Radio subscribers also have access to musical highlights with behind-the-scenes commentary about Phish’s Ninth Cube New Year’s performance.
