TAUK brought its Chaos Companion Tour through Atlanta, GA on Saturday night, where the band headlined at the Variety Playhouse and welcomed a very special guest, Neal Francis. The stop in Atlanta came around the midpoint of TAUK’s tour, which sees the band celebrating the release of its September 2021 album, Chaos Companion.
As a fiery set one drew to a close, drummer Isaac Teel hyped up the crowd for a moment before introducing singer-songwriter and piano aficionado Neal Francis to the stage. Francis, who was in town this past weekend for a show at Purgatory at The Masquerade on Friday (10/22), and a festival slot at Shaky Knees earlier in the day on Saturday, joined TAUK on stage and quickly acquainted himself behind the keys alongside Alric “A.C.” Carter.

Guitarist Matt Jalbert and bassist Charlie Dolan immediately started into the opening riff of Sly and the Family Stone‘s “Thank You (Falletinme Be Mice Elf Agin)”. The song, which Sly and the Family Stone originally recorded in 1969 as a double A-side single with “Everybody Is a Star”, took a new form on Saturday night with Francis and A.C. behind the keys.
Throughout the seven-minute cover, Francis traded vocals with Teel, handling some of the verses and harmonizing well on the chorus’ refrain, “Thank you fallettinme be mice elf agin.” The performance also left plenty of time for Francis and A.C. to dance across the keys, turning the end of set one into an all-out, funkified dance party.
