For the first time since 2019, The Disco Biscuits will reactivate their Tractorbeam alter-ego for a rare performance. The first show by the improv-heavy house project in nearly five years is set for Super Bowl Sunday, February 11th, 2024, at Boulder, CO’s Fox Theatre. The band also revealed that Alex “Herm” Schnieder will join them on the road as its new lighting designer.

The history of Tractorbeam stretches back to 2007–2009 (and sporadically into the 2010s). In the early days, Tractorbeam was a platform for The Disco Biscuits band to play instrumental renderings of their originals and covers, but in 2019 The Disco Biscuits evolved the concept to focus on playing live versions of house and disco songs. The band’s members utilize Ableton Live to sync their live instruments for the unique concert experience, with some Tractorbeam-esque moments creeping into regular Disco Biscuits shows in recent years. A full, proper Tractorbeam show, however, hasn’t materialized since December 27th, 2019 at New York City’s Sony Hall, at an afterparty the band played following its own show at the venue formerly known as the PlayStation Theater.

“One of the most exciting things about playing with the Disco Biscuits is our ability to keep things fresh, and approach new, incredible musical territory like during our Tractorbeam shows,” guitarist Jon “Barber” Gutwillig said in a press release. “These become very real and fast moving events, fusing even more genres and songs into a nonstop dance experience.”

An artist pre-sale for tickets to The Disco Biscuits’ Tractorbeam show at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO will begin Wednesday, December 13th at 10 a.m. MT and is accessible using the password TBEAM24. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, December 15th at 10 a.m. MT here. The Super Tractorbowl show adds to the band’s 30-plus date Why We Dance 2024 winter/spring tour, recently extended into April. In addition to coast-to-coast headlining dates, the tour also features festival appearances at Gem & Jam, Texas Eclipse, and Electric Forest.

Joining The Disco Biscuits on the road will be newly installed lighting designer Alex “Herm” Schnieder, the former LD for Twiddle, who replaces the Biscuits’ longtime LD Johnny R Goode. This acquisition comes after Twiddle went on indefinite hiatus following the band’s three-night Frendsgiving run at The Capitol Theatre last month. Herm will begin his tenure with The Disco Biscuits at the band’s run of New Year’s Eve shows in NYC (12/28) and Philadelphia (12/30–12/31). For tickets and a full list of tour dates head here.
