On Friday, The Highwomen, a relatively-new supergroup comprised of Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, Amanda Shires, and Natalie Hemby, officially released their self-titled debut album via Elektra Records.
The Highwomen’s new album was produced by Dave Cobb, who has previously produced material for Carlile, Shires, and Morris. The quartet’s debut studio effort features guest appearances by keyboardist Peter Levin, Amanda’s husband and guitarist Jason Isbell, Brandi’s bandmates bassist Phil Hanseroth, guitarist Tim Hanseroth, and drummer Chris Powell, and others.
The album includes a cover of Fleetwood Mac‘s “The Chain”, which the supergroup recorded for the recently released film, The Kitchen. The Kitchen stars Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, and Elizabeth Moss. Based on Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle’s Vertigo comic book miniseries, the film’s plot focuses on three women who take over their husbands’ criminal enterprise in 1970s New York City after the Irish mobsters are arrested.
