Denver, CO funk favorite The Motet went international for a cover of “Breathe Deeper” by Australian psychedelic powerhouse Tame Impala. Out now, the cover comes as The Motet gears up for its return to Red Rocks Amphitheatre on May 27th with Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and Cory Henry.

Taken from the Kevin Parker-led outfit’s 2020 album The Slow Rush, this cover hears The Motet slow jam the trancey central vamp. Armed with the two-pronged keyboard attack of Drew Sayers and Joey Porter, the former delivers synths while the latter utilizes the vocoder to give the repeated phrase an almost Daft Punk feel.

The Motet is currently on the road for the Keep On Don’t Stoppin’ Tour with special guests Colin MillerMike Dillon, and Eggy on select dates. The cross-country trek will culminate on May 27th at Morrison, CO’s iconic Red Rocks. That show will see The Motet—comprised of Dave Watts (drums), Joey Porter (keys), Garrett Sayers (bass), Ryan Jalbert (guitar), and Drew Sayers (keys/saxophone)—welcome special guests Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin, & Wood), vocalists Shira Elias and Sammi Garett and The Horn Section (formerly of Turkuaz), plus guest keyboardist Cory Henry.

“I’ve had the honor to play Red Rocks at least 10 times now in various capacities and I still get choked up at some point throughout the day,” Jalbert said. “I’ll walk up to the top row after sound check and I’m inevitably moved to tears. It’s not just because of the beauty of the venue (which is of course stunning), it’s more so just being touched by the immense support of all of our fans that stick with us through thick and thin, ups and downs, lineup changes, global pandemics, whatever… and then we have our chance to celebrate together under the stars at this amazing place.”
