Trey Anastasio Band and Goose will team up for an eight-date arena tour in November 2022, the bands revealed on Tuesday. The tour’s announcement promises “a full set from each band along with unique collaborations” at each stop.

Per a November 7th post from Goose, “As of now, the plan is for both bands to each play 90+ minute sets with some collabs sprinkled in. We will be playing first every night.”
The tour will kick off on November 9th with a show at Portland, ME’s Cross Insurance Arena. The outing, produced by Live Nation, will continue that weekend with performances at Lowell, MA’s Tsongas Arena (11/11), Uncasville, CT’s Mohegan Sun Arena (11/12), and Glens Falls, NY’s Cool Insuring Arena (11/13). Fans may notice some similarities between the stops on the Trey Anastasio Band/Goose 2022 fall tour—a mix of mid-size arenas in small markets—and Phish’s fall tours in the 1990s, evoking an era when the jam icons were still on the rise. The tour will also feature TAB’s debut at Mohegan Sun Arena, a venue Goose filled earlier this year for Goosemas XIII.
In the vintage Reese’s ad parody starring Trey Anastasio and Goose’s Rick Mitarotonda that serves as the tour’s announcement video, a voiceover sums up the pairing: “Two great bands that sound great together. Trey Anastasio Band. Real, milky jams. Signature, delicious music. And Goose’s crunchy, funky, butter sound—topped with chopped peanuts!”

The mutual admiration shared by Trey Anastasio and Goose has become ever more apparent over the course of this year. While the members of Goose have never been shy about the impact Phish has had on their playing, they had not yet crossed paths with Anastasio as recently as this spring. As guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Peter Anspach explained during an April 2022 conversation with Live For Live Music, “I’m very excited to meet Trey [Anastasio] this summer, which is cool. We’re playing festivals with him and his band at [SweetWater 420 Fest] and at [The Peach Music Festival].”
Anastasio first indicated his affinity for Goose not long after. While discussing King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, a band he has publicly praised in the past, during an interview with SiriusXM Phish Radio host Ari Fink in May ahead of Phish’s 2022 tour, Trey added, “There’s other bands out there, too, that are doing good stuff now. I’m always excited about the ones that are writing a lot of their own music. Goose, go Goose. … Yeah, I mean, writing is harder than people think. You have to go for it and you have to be willing to fail. I like that. I, like, admire that. You know what I mean? Like, not every song is going to be great. … I have so much faith in, like, post-pandemic music by people in their 20s. I think they’re gonna take it now and own their era and go forth. … Go anybody who’s taking the risk, people that are playing a lot of original songs.”

The following month, Trey Anastasio stopped by the Connecticut quintet’s sold-out stand at New York’s Radio City Music Hall for an extended sit-in featuring takes on a number of Goose favorites both new and old. The following weekend, the momentous collaboration was the talk of Montage Mountain—and the national jam scene at large—as Trey Anastasio Band and Goose comprised the centerpiece of a busy Saturday schedule at Scranton, PA’s The Peach Music Festival. Now, Goose and Trey will take this potent combo on the road for what is sure to be one of the most buzzed-about tours in recent memory.
Goose ft. Trey Anastasio – “Hungersite” > “Arcadia” [Pro-Shot] – 6/25/22
Trey Anastasio Band and Goose have been keeping busy in the lead-up to the joint tour. Anastasio recently rounded out a run of Halloween shows with TAB in Chicago. On October 31st, Phish quietly released a studio version of Get More Down by Sci-Fi Soldier, the futuristic album the band conceived and “covered” for Halloween 2021. Later this year, the quartet will return to Madison Square Garden for a four-night New Year’s run. Goose has been off the road since wrapping up its fall tour in Austin, TX earlier this month. On Tuesday, November 1st, the group will make its late-night TV debut with a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Outside their usual group structures, the members of the two bands have also been drawing inspiration from other projects. Goose’s Rick Mitarotonda and Trey Anastasio Band’s Jennifer Hartswick, James Casey, and Natalie Cressman recently dipped their toes into the waters of the Grateful Dead as part of a three-night Phil Lesh & Friends stint at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY. That same weekend, Trey Anastasio and Goose’s Peter Anspach were spotted together at Forest Hills Stadium taking in a performance by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
