When We Were Young Festival organizers have issued a statement announcing that the first day of the festival’s inaugural weekend is canceled due to extreme winds.

“[We] have spent the last several days proactively preparing the festival grounds for a windy Saturday. The National Weather Service has now upgraded their Saturday forecast to a High Wind Warning, including dangerous 30–40 mph sustained winds with potential 60 mph gusts,” organizers said. “Under advisement of the Natoinal Weather Service and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, we have no other choice than to cancel today’s When We Were Young Festival. The safety of our fans, artists and staff will always be our top priority.”

The nostalgic pop-punk, emo, and alternative festival was originally scheduled to be a one-day event, but due to overwhelming demand, a second and then a third day were added. Each day is ticketed separately and the lineup for all three days is virtually identical, with a who’s who of early-2000s emo and alternative staples including My Chemical RomanceParamoreAFIThe UsedBring Me The HorizonAvril LavigneBright EyesJimmy Eat WorldTaking Back SundayDashboard ConfessionalAlkaline TrioManchester OrchestraA Day To Remember, The All American RejectsCar Seat Headrest, AtreyuThe Story So Far, and The Starting Line. At this time, the festival is set to move forward with programming scheduled for Sunday, October 23rd and Saturday, October 29th, as “according to the National Weather Service, Sunday’s weather looks sunny without any wind advisories.”

“This was not a decision that came lightly,” event organizers said of the last-minute cancelation. “We know many of you traveled to the area to have a spectacular day with your favorite bands and have been looking forward to this day for months. We were equally as excited and are devastated to have to share this news.”

They went on to say that fans who bought tickets for the canceled day of When We Were Young Festival “through the festival’s ticketing company, Front Gate Tickets … will receive a refund in as little as 30 days to the original form of payment.”
