Willie Nelson will celebrate his 89th birthday with the release of a new album, A Beautiful Time. Out on April 29th via Legacy Records, the new LP features collaborations with his longtime songwriting partner Buddy Cannon as well as covers of The Beatles and Leonard Cohen.
Just like how Nelson’s most recent album, November’s The Willie Nelson Family, was a family affair, A Beautiful Time is also a group project. The album’s lead single, “I’ll Love You Till the Day I Die” is evidence as Chris Stapleton and Rodney Crowell split songwriting credits. Though someone else’s name may be on the song, the recording is all Willie as The Red Headed Stranger settles right into the dusty, harmonica-tinged track like it was one of his own.
A Beautiful Time also hears Nelson interpreting the words of songwriters Shawn Camp, Charles R. Humphrey III, Jim “Moose” Brown, Scotty Emerick, Don Sampson, Bobby Terry, and Matt Rossi. The 14-track album features covers of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends” and Leonard Cohen’s “Tower of Song”.
