Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real have released their latest studio effort, Naked Garden, out today (3/27) via Fantasy Records/Concord.

The 15-track studio project from Nelson and his backing band, which includes the previously-shared “Couldn’t Break Your Heart” and “Civilized Hell”, acts as the companion to Turn Off the News (Build a Garden) with a mix of unreleased tracks and alternate versions that didn’t appear on the 2019 release. The recordings from both albums were tracked at southern California’s Shangri-La Studios and Village Studios. The new recordings out today, however, have more of a “raw” feel to them.

“Some strings are out of tune. Some lyrics are inconsistent. There’s microphone bleed, tape machine buzz, conversations and laughter between takes…that’s how we like it,” the band detailed their latest project with the album’s initial announcement last month. “Our hope is that ‘Naked Garden’ offers a glimpse behind the curtain, at POTR in our most raw, honest, and naked state.”

Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real were supposed to perform at the 2020 iteration of Willie Nelson‘s annual Luck Reunion one-day festival at the Luck Ranch outside of Austin, TX on March 19th, but that event transitioned into an online-only initiative following the cessation of almost all concerts across the country thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.
