The Silk Sonic plot continued to thicken on Friday as the Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak supergroup released its latest single, “Smokin’ Out The Window”. The song will appear on the duo’s debut album, An Evening With Silk Sonic, out next Friday via Aftermath/Atlantic.

Following in the footsteps of previous singles “Leave The Door Open” and “Skate“, Silk Sonic continues the 70s soul motif that’s as smooth as their titular veneer. Beyond the song’s homage to vintage R&B, it’s imbued with humor as Mars and .Paak opine their delegation to blowing smoke out the window after all they provide for their ladies. From the opening line of “Must have spent 35, 45 thousand up in Tiffany’s/Got her badass kids running ’round my whole crib like it’s Chuck E. Cheese,” the whole song is a riot.

The song presents yet another side of Silk Sonic, building on the velvety romance with which the group first introduced itself on “Leave The Door Open”. With “Skate”, the duo presented a playful, flirtatious manner. Now with “Smokin’ Out The Window”, Mars and .Paak let their wounded egos lay bare as they conflate money with love, gaining license to blow smoke in your face as they buy you a ring first.

Though it’s one of the most hotly anticipated projects of 2021, details of An Evening With Silk Sonic are still scarce. The nine-track LP will come out next Friday and feature the three previously released singles. Bootsy Collins hosts the project as a narrator, and earlier this week the funk legend let out a tease that Childish Gambino and Ariana Grande may feature on the album after he tagged them in an Instagram post about the project.
