[UPDATE 4/5/23]: Bill Kreutzmann has announced the addition of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Molly Tuttle to the lineup of Billy & The Kids for their upcoming Fleur De Dead concert at Saenger Theatre in New Orleans on April 27th.

“Molly was raised in my hometown of Palo Alto, a stone’s throw from where I first became a fan of another banjo player — Jerry Garcia,” Kreutzmann wrote in an announcement posted to social media. “It wasn’t long before Jerry switched to guitar and we formed a band that would become the Grateful Dead.”

He continued, “Molly was just two years old when the Grateful Dead stopped touring in 1995, but to hear her play ‘Standing on the Moon,’ you’d think Garcia and Hunter wrote the tune with her in mind. Molly’s recent win at the Grammy Awards has put her in certain company but she’ll be joining my Kids on the eve of this year’s Jazz Fest for a very special night of music, dancing, community, and celebration.”

3/21/23: After posting several videos teasing a New Orleans announcement, Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann has confirmed Billy & The Kids will reunite for the first time since July 2021 for a show billed as Fleur De Dead at NOLA’s Saenger Theatre on April 27th, the day before New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival begins.

Kreutzmann formed Billy & The Kids with members of the younger generation of jam heavyweights in 2014, debuting the project at at Warren HaynesChristmas Jam in 2014 with bassist Reed Mathis, guitarist Tom Hamilton (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Ghost Light), and keyboardist Aron Magner (The Disco Biscuits). The group most recently performed in 2021 at “Dead On The Rocks” at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre and in Kauai, Hawaii for the Grateful Mahalo: Billy Kreutzmann’s 75th Birthday Pa’ina livestreams, which featured guest appearances by Carlos Santana, Bill Nershi, Billy Strings, and James Casey, who has stuck around as the band’s newest “kid.”

Billy & The Kids will host Fleur De Dead at Saenger Theatre in New Orleans, LA on Thursday, April 27th, the night before the first weekend of Jazz Fest kicks off. Kreutzmann will headline the festival’s second weekend with Dead & Company. Here’s hoping Bill sticks around town in the week between the Billy & The Kids show and Dead & Company’s Jazz Fest appearance to take in the Big Easy culture and, hopefully, do some collaborating at some of the many shows taking place throughout the week.
