The unstoppable psychedelic force that is King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard is once again in full effect. After being derailed by the pandemic in 2020 and staying close to home in 2021, the Australian experimental rockers have resumed their quest for world domination, and of course, no global conquest would be complete without a visit to New York City. On Friday, October 21st, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will make their debut at Forest Hills Stadium, the band’s first NYC show since 2019 [get tickets].
A lot has happened since King Gizzard stepped offstage after their Central Park SummerStage performance on August 28th, 2019. Perhaps most notable is the absence of drummer Eric Moore, who left in August 2020 but has remained on as the group’s manager and head of their Flightless Records. The group has also released five studio albums (including the 2021 vinyl exclusive Made In Timeland) with another arriving tomorrow, October 7th. In fact, the Forest Hills Stadium show arrives during one of the most prolific periods in KGLW’s career, which is saying a lot.
This month, the band plans to release three albums: Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava (10/7); Laminated Denim (10/12); and Changes (10/28). These three full-length releases will bring the group’s grand total to 23 studio albums, with five released this year alone. When 2022 is finished, it will tie 2017 for the band’s most prolific year with five studio albums each.
As if the wealth of studio content wasn’t enough, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are back on the road making up for a couple of years lost to COVID. The band recently completed the first of three Marathon Sets at The Greek Theatre in Berkley, CA, with two more to follow at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on October 10th and 11th. The group has been on the road since May performing shows around the world in Europe, the U.K., and North and South America, with the world tour finally set to conclude on Wednesday, September 2nd with an encore performance at Red Rocks.
